Abdominal pain is typically described as pain and discomfort that occurs in the abdomen. The abdomen is located between the chest and pelvis and contains many vital organs, any of which could be the source of discomfort. Other terms used to describe abdominal pain are stomach ache, tummy ache, gut ache and belly ache. Abdominal pain can be mild or severe and also may be temporary. If pain occurs persistently for weeks and months it is considered chronic abdominal pain.
There are many possible causes of abdominal pain. Contact your RMG gastroenterologist if your symptoms persist. If your symptoms become severe go immediately to the nearest emergency room or urgent care facility for an evaluation.
