Double balloon enteroscopy is an endoscopic procedure performed to examine the small bowel. It is the first endoscopic technique that allows for the entire gastrointestinal tract to be visualized in real time. The physician uses a balloon at the end of a special enteroscope camera and an overtube, a tube that fits over the endoscope. The overtube is also fitted with a balloon, which is inserted into the mouth and passed through the digestive system to the small bowel.
